Description:
This position advises students regarding financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, and costs. This position also verifies student eligibility and processes financial aid awards using federal needs analysis. The Financial Aid Counselor will specialize in specific areas depending on the needs of the Office of Financial Aid. This is a full-time, exempt, 12-month position with benefits. Qualifications:
ducation and Experience Required: bachelor’s degree Required: Three years of experience in financial aid, student counseling or another related field. Or equivalent education and/or experience. Certifications and Licenses Preferred: NASFAA Credential training Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent communication skills, including the ability to exercise tact and discretion when dealing with the public and all members of the University community, including students, families, faculty, and staff. Knowledge of financial aid systems, document management systems, Common Origination and Disbursement System (COD), EdConnect, and other federal web tools preferred. Knowledge of federal, state, donor and/or institutional rules, regulations, guidelines, and procedures for awarding of financial aid preferred. Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage time and workflow and to manage multiple, concurrent high priority projects in a time-pressured environment; organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize with a strong sense of initiative; adept at working independently and as part of a team. Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials. Strong orientation towards taking initiative and ownership of programs by being proactive with projects, assignments, and process improvements. Professional demeanor and ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a University setting that includes a wide array of individuals, groups, policies, and processes. Ability to work effectively with various constituencies including students, the general public, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni and other members of the UP community.
